Wildcat Walk-a-Thon Kickoff!

We are so excited to announce that we will be bringing back West Vincent Elementary PTA’s fourth Wildcat Walk-a-Thon on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. By combining fun, fitness, and fundraising, we hope that all students will help us achieve our goal of reaching or exceeding $25,000!

Thanks to the generosity of family, friends, and local businesses and corporate sponsors, our last Walk-a-Thon held in 2019 generated over $40,000 in donations for our school. These funds allowed for additional assemblies, family events, after-school programs, and the continuation of progress on our multi-year playground enhancement project. As such, this event is a great way for students to directly in raising funds for events and school enhancements that staff, families, and the students themselves will enjoy during the current school year and for years to come!

HOW WILL IT WORK?

We are going digital in 2022 by introducing PledgeStar, an online platform implemented to make fundraising easy with low administrative costs. To get started, access PledgeStar through the information provided below.

Through our PledgeStar event portal, you will be able to:

  • Register your child for our West Vincent Walk-a-Thon

  • Send emails to friends and family to ask for donations

  • Share your specific fundraising page on social media

  • Print out a PDF request with QR code to hand deliver or mail

  • Request matching gifts from employers

HOW DO STUDENTS OBTAIN SPONSORSHIPS?

With parental support, students are asked to use PledgeStar to reach out to family and friends to ask for support. Parents will need to go to https://pledgestar.com/westvincent/ to register and easily add walkers. Once complete, pledge request details and prospective donor contact information may be added to the platform. Conveniently, Walk-a-Thon details can also be shared via social media directly through the portal. All funds are collected through PledgeStar and is tax-deductible; many employers will even match a donation!

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT?

On event day, all West Vincent students and staff will walk outside for 30 minutes. They will be energized by music from a live DJ, inspired to keep moving by motivational signs, and treated to some fun surprises. The students from each grade who raise the most money as of Walk-a-Thon morning will be invited to lead the walk and hold the official Wildcat Walk-a-Thon banner along with our mascot, Willie the Wildcat. A week after the walk, additional prizes will be awarded.

HOW DOES MY STUDENT WIN PRIZES?

Every student will receive a FREE Walk-a-Thon t-shirt to wear at the event and inspire Wildcat pride and will also be entered into a drawing for various prizes. Additionally, we will have prizes for both top individual earners and top earning classes. More details to come!

CAN PARENTS ATTEND THE WALK?

Unfortunately, due to parking lot space needed for the walk, parents are not invited to watch this event. However, we will have a video and plenty of photos available via our West Vincent PTA Facebook page after the event!
